About Us My husband Liam Trodden grew up on a small farm in Ireland; I owned and operated a catering business for more than twenty years on Nantucket Island. When we met, my love for cooking and Liam’s passion for organic farming created a match made in gastronomic heaven. Longfellow’s Creamery and Second Chance Farm, LLC was established in 2001, when we bought 57 acres along the Sandy River in Avon, Maine. Today, it is a MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) certified organic, grass-based farm producing beef, veal, pork, farmstead cheese, raw milk, fiddleheads in season, & maple syrup. Named for its location in the heart of Maine’s Longfellow Mountains, our creamery produces a variety of fresh & aged farmstead cheeses. Our cheeses are named after the different mountain peaks, such as Bigelow Blue and Tumbledown Tomme. We also produce our signature aged blue cheese, Longfellow's Serenade. Because we are a small, family owned farm, we pay extra attention to every aspect of our animals' lives, ensuring a humane, stress-free environment and have recently been certified Animal Welfare Approved. Our cows are never given growth hormones, antibiotics or animal by-products. The same philosophy guides the treatment of our pigs, goats and veal calves. Our motto is “Nourishing the body, sustaining the spirit and celebrating community“. Kathy & Liam Trodden |
